Hello, we are relatively new residents of the "Valley" and thought you would like a newbies view of Westquarter.
We have always bought houses in need of a bit of TLC so have had 3 addresses in Polmont and also lived by Falkirk Wheel during the 15 or so years we have lived in the area. When it came time to move again we "found" Westquarter from a property that was advertised for sale. We did not get the winning bid on that first house but it introduced us to the Model Village and from that point were determined to live here. To be honest, we knew of its poor reputation of having drug problems, which many Falkirk locals still think is an issue. To our minds, let them think that!!
The Valley is a well-kept secret haven, well appreciated by its residents and we have no desire to live anywhere else now. We have plenty of space with a huge garden that backs onto woodland with the Westquarter Burn trickling its way in front of our property. Very few families could match a property location like that. There is no evidence of substance abusers around us - all our neighbours seem to be good upright folk. Sure, a few of them dont have a lot of spare cash but they are all very genuine people here who have made us feel very welcome.
The idea of the Westquarter Community Project is very good and will no doubt help to promote the area from its poor historical reputation into what the village is really about.
We love the plans to put a book together, as from talking to residents who have been here since the inception of the village, when it was a mining settlement, there are many diverse facts and stories of interest that will look good in print.
A couple of things we would like to high-light. One is the home-page photo, which shows cars up in a better light than the lovely Village..? We would be happy to suppy some local views for adding to the site if some-one lets us know how to send them to your web-master. On that point, "Contact" in the User Menu might be a good idea so that folk can e-mail ideas or comments that they dont necessarily want to post for all to see? Another addition to the pages could be about the local football teams (even though we are not fans of the sport ourselves!!) - perhaps their results and primary match dates? This would surely give them a few more supporters if people know where the teams are playing....just a thought.
On flicking around the pages, it is noticeable that a lot of the content is out of date, which is a shame as the site has the beginnings of being a good useful website that we shall visit regularly.
Good luck with all your ventures from David & Ann Marriner
